The venerable Washington Square Association — the city’s oldest civic neighborhood association — is launching a new lecture series on contemporary arts in and around Washington Square.
The first program will focus on the world of theater followed by lectures on literature, visual arts and music.
The first lecture will feature Oskar Eustis, the acclaimed artistic director of The Public Theater. Eustis will speak about the enduring legacy of Joe Papp, plus the inspiration and support The Public continues to provide for up-and-coming talent.
The lectures are curated by Elizabeth Butson.
The inaugural lecture will be held Thurs., Nov. 21, at 6:30 pm, at the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Film Center of New York University, at 36 E. Eighth St. Tickets are $5 for students and $20 for general admission.
RSVP to wsalecture.eventbrite.com .
Proceeds from ticket sales will support the development of new work by emerging playwrights at The Public Theater.
