Learn Native basket weaving at Museum of the American Indian

For Women’s History Month, the New York National Museum of the American Indian is offering a free workshop, “Bountiful Baskets,” on basket weaving on Sat., March 18, and Sun., March 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn about the art of weaving from Indigenous women as they share the beauty of Native basketry and the significance of keeping this tradition alive through the different weaving traditions, materials and stories and inspirations that go into making a basket. Hear directly from Corine Pearce (Redwood Valley Little River Band of Pomo), Ronni-leigh Goeman (Onondaga), Iva Honyestewa (Hopi) and Laura Wong-Whitebear (Colville).

The event happens in the museum’s rotunda.
