BY THE VILLAGE SUN | If you hadn’t already seen the news on your smart phone or computer, you were sure to do a double take if you were passing by Saint John’s in the Village Church late Thursday afternoon. A small poster there announced, “The Queen is dead. May she rest in peace. Long live The King.”
Queen Elizabeth II reigned for nearly 71 years. She was 96. She was a popular monarch — albeit not with the Sex Pistols.
Saint John’s in the Village is part of the Episcopal Church, which is Anglican, with its roots going back to the Church of England.
The Greenwich Village church, at 128 W. 11th St., plans soon to hold “a suitable special service in thanksgiving for her life and for the repose of her soul.”
The church’s Web page will be updated with more more details.
