The Anarchist Book Fair is back — but for the first time, it’s outdoors.
A favorite of radical readers and zine fans, the annual event will be held in person on Sat., Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in La Plaza Cultural de Armando Perez Community Garden, at Ninth Street and Avenue C. You can buy books from and say hello to the authors themselves, some of whom will be on hand.
There will be in-person workshops, including on bike repair, squatting and medicinal herbs.
From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., there will also be an associated art festival in the garden. In addition, just a block away, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. the Emma Goldman Film Festival will be held in Tompkins Square Park.
On Sun., Oct. 3, there will be virtual workshops.
The idea behind having the book fair in the garden obviously is to provide space for social distancing amid the fresh air during the ongoing pandemic.
“It’s outside for the first time in 15 years,” said Bill di Paola, who heads La Plaza’s events committee. “I think it will be plenty safe.”
