This summer the Jefferson Market Garden, at Greenwich and Sixth Aves., is presenting two world music concerts on the lawn.
The dates are Sun., Aug. 29, and Sun., Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 pm. The concerts are free, though with limited availability. Rain dates are Aug. 30 and Sept. 6.
In the first Sunday performance, acclaimed trombonist Corey Wallace leads his DUBtet band, a group dedicated to creativity and integrity in black American music and beyond, with a program that includes original compositions.
The following Sunday, the garden will host Pedro Giraudo, Latin Grammy Award winner for Best Tango Album, and his Tango Quartet as they combine sounds of Argentine folk music and jazz. Giraudo’s music represents the evolution of tango today, while retaining the classic lush and sensual sound.
These free concerts were made possible through funding provided By Con Edison and New York University and the support of the Butson family.
The concerts have been curated by Ron Wasserman and Elizabeth Butson.
