A 61-year-old man was slashed in the face at the L-train station at 14th St. and First Ave., police said.
According to cops, on Wed., Feb. 3, around 6:30 a.m., the victim was standing onboard a Manhattan-bound L train when he gotten into a verbal dispute with a younger man who was stranger to him.
The dispute escalated into a physical encounter, with the younger man slashing the victim with a box cutter on his right cheek before fleeing on foot southbound from 14th St.
The victim was removed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
The New York Post reported that the victim was slashed very deeply.
“It was bad. It was very deep,” an M.T.A. employee told the tabloid. “The string from [his] mask was inside of [the slash wound]. He was bleeding profusely.
“He came up and said, ‘Call the police. I have been slashed,’” the worker said. “He was in a state of shock.”
The Post reported that the dispute occurred on the subway platform, not inside a train.
The suspect is described as 20 to 30 years old with black hair, last seen wearing a black North Face jacket, red hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, red bandana, light-colored sneakers and a brown Louis Vuitton face mask.
Police released surveillance photos and video of the alleged suspect.
