Puttin’ on the dog at Elizabeth St. Garden Halloween Pet Parade

The pet set ruled at the Elizabeth St. Garden on Saturday afternoon as the Little Italy green oasis put on a Halloween parade for four-legged friends.

Amid all the tension over the upcoming election, not to mention the ongoing pandemic, it was a welcome “paws” for a little fun. Numbers in the garden were controlled, everybody (at least the two-legged ones) wore a mask and there was social distancing.

Almost 50 costumed canines strutted their stuff down the catwalk…er, make that the dogwalk.

The contest winners were Lola and Juicy — dressed as a bee and a sunflower — whose owner also created some buzz with her own bee getup.

Despite all the merriment and furry fun — and the critical need for open space at a time like this — the beloved neighborhood spot remains at risk of being bulldozed. Mayor de Blasio and Councilmember Margaret Chin are continuing to push for a housing project to be built on the unique sylvan, statue-studded site.

All the area’s other politicians and Community Board 2 are on record in support of saving the garden.

Joseph Reiver, the garden’s director, was totally fine with the space going completely to the dogs on Halloween. (Photo by Milo Hess)
